Dementia
SLPs do not diagnose dementia. However, SLPs can complete assessments to determine strengths or weaknesses of communication and cognition and subsequently design a treatment plan and/or compensatory aids. Plans may include maximizing communication skills, memory, ability to complete tasks in the right order, locate items, and decrease frustration. SLPs may also treat swallowing disorders that occur in the middle to later stages of dementia. For additional information, please visit:
